BALTIMORE -- The Orioles got their second out of the seventh inning on an overturned play at first base in a 5-2 loss to the Rays in Game 1 of their day-night doubleheader on Friday.

With one out and Tampa Bay leading, 5-1, a dribbler from Rays shortstop Ben Zobrist was played by O's first baseman Chris Davis. Davis tossed the ball to Baltimore reliever Evan Meek, who was covering the bag on the play.

Zobrist was initially called safe on the play, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter came out to contest the call, and it was overturned.

"It's like I said to [first-base umpire Gabriel Morales], 'He's looking at the ball, he's looking at the bag, he's looking at the glove,'" Showalter said. "The eyes just can't [keep track].

"It's one of the reasons why we have replay. It's just impossible for the human eye to see all of those factors at one time. A lot of them are educated guesses. … [Sometimes] you have to see replays three or four times before you decide to overturn, obviously with this one they didn't need to see very much [before overturning the call], but that's no reflection on the umpire. You can understand how they can miss some of them."

The replay review took 43 seconds.
