BALTIMORE -- Orioles first baseman Chris Davis had a platelet-rich plasma injection on Monday's off-day and will be shut down for at least a few days until the discomfort in his left oblique completely subsides.

There's no real definitive timetable when it comes to PRP injections, so the Orioles will see how Davis responds and go from there. The injections are prepared from the patient's own blood and, after being centrifuged, the activated platelets are injected back into the injured area to help spur growth and speed up the healing process.

Davis will accompany the team on its upcoming road trip to Minnesota and Tampa Bay and will progress to a stretching and strengthening program after the rest period is up. The All-Star is eligible to come off the disabled list May 11.
