"You look at the year he had last year, he had some kind of year between the two levels," manager Buck Showalter said of Huntzinger, who pitched to a 1.83 ERA in 49 outings between Double-A and Triple-A. "He wasn't in camp with Boston [last spring] but he came over 15, 20 times. He's only 25, you look at the history of him, he might be getting ready to step to another level.
"I was impressed with him. Aggressive, good presentation, he wasn't scared, Indiana high school kid. He's got a good grip on it."
Huntzinger came into spring in good shape after two stints in the Dominican Winter League, including 15 2/3 innings with the Estrellas, where he pitched to a 1.15 ERA. He returned shortly after Christmas and pitched in the postseason for Aguilas.
He is expected to be part of Triple-A Norfolk's bullpen and could be an option for the Orioles later this season.
Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez and infielder Ivan De Jesus Jr. were also reassigned to Minor League camp.
