O's hire Manto as Minor League hitting coordinator

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles have hired Jeff Manto to be their new Minor League hitting coordinator, and Mike Boulanger, who held the title previously, was moved into an amateur and professional scouting role with the organization.

Manto was the White Sox hitting coach from 2012-13, and he spent a year of his playing career in Baltimore, appearing in 89 games and batting .256/.325/.492 in 1995.

Manto joined the White Sox organization as Minor League hitting coordinator in November 2007, before being promoted to the big league club in 2012. He was dismissed at the end of September.

Boulanger joined the O's in January 2012, after he held the same title with the Rangers until June 8, 2011, when he replaced Scott Coolbaugh as hitting coach at Triple-A Round Rock. Coolbaugh replaced Thad Bosley as Texas' hitting coach that season.

The Orioles, who recently hired Dave Wallace as pitching coach, still need to fill the role of bullpen coach to round out the Major League coaching staff.
