"He felt good physically," manager Buck Showalter said of the report on Hammel's outing.
Showalter said Hammel, who has been sidelined with right forearm tightness, could be activated Sept. 7 or 8 and the organization is still undecided on his exact role. Hammel, who will be part of an expanded roster, could be in the bullpen or rotation depending on the team's need. The plan for Tuesday's outing is to get him to 60-65 pitches and somewhere in the five-inning range.
Hammel was 7-8 with a 5.20 ERA in 21 starts before being placed on the disabled list when the Orioles acquired starter Bud Norris in late July.
