Reimold gets first taste of bigs

KANSAS CITY -- Nolan Reimold took a sip of his "cup of coffee" in the Major Leagues on Thursday night. Now the question is whether he'll be able to stick around for a half cup or a full cup.

Manager Dave Trembley made it clear that Reimold's stay with the Orioles after a promotion from Triple-A Norfolk is contingent on the health of outfielders Luke Scott (bruised shoulder) and Adam Jones (mild right hamstring strain). With Scott and Jones out of the lineup for the opener of the Kansas City series, Reimold drew the start in left field.

No matter how long he stays with the Orioles, Reimold just wants to savor the experience and make an impression . He was hitting .394 with 11 doubles, nine homers and 27 runs batted in for Norfolk.

"It's something you've been shooting for your whole life," Remold said. "It's pretty surreal."

Reimold had been looking forward to Thursday's arrival with the Orioles since Baltimore made him a second-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

"We've got a lot of talented outfielders up here," Reimold said. "All I could do was concentrate on helping my team [at Norfolk]. If you do that, eventually you'll get a shot."

Reimold got the word of his callup from Norfolk manager Gary Allenson late Wednesday night.

Reimold quickly called his parents with the good news and soon was receiving congratulatory text messages and calls.

"I just want to keep doing the same things I was doing down there," Reimold said. "I think the biggest difference is probably the atmosphere. It's definitely exciting."

Trembley made Reimold no promises on how long he would remain with the Orioles.

"I told him, 'Make the most of your opportunity. While you're here, you'll play,'" Trembley said. "He's coming off a great start, and we're glad to have him."
