Orioles claim RHP Redmond off waivers

The Orioles today announced that they have claimed RHP TODD REDMOND off waivers from Cincinnati. To make room for him on the 40-man roster, OF TRAYVON ROBINSON has been designated for assignment.

Redmond, 27, is 71-61 with a 3.58 ERA (1185.1IP, 471ER) in 207 career minor leagues games (200 starts) in eight seasons in the Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Cincinnati organizations. He went a combined 8-11 with a 3.63 ERA (148.2IP, 60ER) in 26 games (25 starts) with Triple-A Louisville and Gwinnett and made his major league debut on August 18 against the Cubs last season. Redmond was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 39th round of the 2004 First Year Player Draft.

Robinson, 25, was acquired on November 20, 2012 from Seattle in exchange for Robert Andino. He batted .215/.272/.330 (62-288) in 90 major league games over the past two seasons with Seattle. The switch-hitter appeared in 46 games (39 starts) in left field for Seattle in 2012. Robinson hit 73 home runs and stole 169 bases in 754 games over eight minor league seasons after being drafted in the 10th round of the 2005 First Year Player Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Additionally, CA LUIS MARTINEZ has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. He will be a non-roster invitee at big league camp.
