Mora ejected for arguing with umpire

|
TORONTO -- Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora was ejected for arguing with home plate umpire Rob Drake in the third inning of Tuesday's series opener against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

With no out and runners on first and second base, Mora struck out on a called third strike from Jays left-hander John Parrish. After the call, Mora got in the face of Drake and began to argue. Seconds later, he was tossed from the game, as Orioles manager Dave Trembley came rushing from the dugout to mediate.

Trembley managed to separate the two but he could not contain Mora's anger, which was still present during Baltimore's next at-bat. Before heading into the dugout tunnel, Mora flipped a bat onto the field in the direction of home plate.

Mora said after the game that he grew angry when he thought he heard the umpire call him "stupid."

"After he got ejected, I said 'That was stupid,' meaning that was stupid for you to get ejected over this situation," said Drake. "And he goes 'What was stupid?' And I said 'That was stupid.'"

Mora was asked following the game if he thought he would be suspended for throwing the bat.

"Well you know what, that was my reaction," Mora said. "If that is wrong, I apologize for that. But the player gets suspended, but my question is, who suspends the umpire? That's my question because nobody knows what he told me."

With the ejection, Mora became the seventh Baltimore player to be tossed this year.

Aubrey Huff moved from first base to third to replace Mora, while Kevin Millar entered the game at first.
