Albers leaves early with shoulder pain

CHICAGO -- The Orioles lost one pitcher to illness and another to injury on Wednesday night. Brian Burres was scratched from his scheduled start due to a stomach ailment, and replacement Matt Albers only recorded one out before leaving with pain in his pitching shoulder. Albers, who was charged with four earned runs, will be re-evaluated back in Baltimore.

Before the game, Baltimore manager Dave Trembley had said that Albers was his best choice. Trembley had held out hope that he would get deep in the game, but he wound up using his second-best option a lot earlier than expected.

"I would say Albers and [Lance] Cormier were our chances," said Trembley, speaking of his long relievers. "We'll pitch Albers and see how many pitches he can give us. I'm not sure. We'll go as long as he's able to do it.

Cormier worked through the end of the third inning before yielding to fellow long man Ryan Bukvich. The Orioles expect Burres to pitch out of the bullpen for a day or two and ultimately return to the rotation for his next start.
