"I'd love to have a guy, especially a guy like Jonesie who's been there before, to sort of show me around. I'm going to try to get as many people to vote for him as I can. He's got incredible numbers this first half, and I'd love to have him out there with me."
The 82nd Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played on July 12 at Chase Field in Phoenix. It will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and Le Reseau des Sports, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide exclusive national radio coverage. MLB Network, MLB.com and Sirius XM also will provide comprehensive All-Star Game coverage.
The 25-year-old Jones, who was an AL All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner in 2009, is ranked third in the AL in outfield assists (nine) and entered Sunday hitting .288 with 13 homers and 46 RBIs.
"It's nice to be in the mix, but it's out of my hands," said Jones, who also has a team-leading six stolen bases. "I can't do anything about it. It's out of my hands."
The Orioles announced Sunday plans for a giveaway to help fuel votes. By selecting Jones as the 2011 Final Vote choice between 1:01 p.m. ET on Sunday and 3:59 pm ET on Thursday, fans will be entered into the "2011 Vote Jones All-Star Game Final Vote Sweepstakes." The winner will receive an Adam Jones VIP Meet & Greet, parking and four field box seat tickets to an Orioles non-prime home game this season.
If Jones is elected, it would mark the first time since 2005 -- and just the second time in the last 11 years -- that the Orioles had more than one All-Star.
"It is [frustrating], but it comes down to voting and it depends on how we're playing," Jones said of how difficult it is for a last-place Orioles squad to get more than one player to the Midseason Classic. "If we're playing good baseball, more players will get in. It is what it is."
Mobile voting in the U.S. and Canada is open to everyone. In the U.S., to receive the 2011 All-Star Game Final Vote Sponsored by Sprint mobile ballot, text the word "VOTE" to 89269. The fun doesn't end there, however. Fans, having already decided the starters and final player on each team, once again will have the opportunity to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player presented by Chevy via the 2011 All-Star Game MVP Vote Sponsored by Sprint on MLB.com during the All-Star Game.
