Bedard meets Beckett as O's hit Boston

Leading the Major Leagues with 175 strikeouts, Erik Bedard will take the hill in a showdown with 13-game winner Josh Beckett of the Red Sox on Tuesday night at Fenway Park.

Bedard looks to keep the Orioles' second-half winning ways alive by using his biting curveball and some pinpointed fastballs against a potent Boston lineup.

In his last seven starts, Bedard has put together a 6-0 record and a 1.89 ERA.

Beckett, however, won't make things easy for the Birds. The right-hander owns a career 2-0 record and a 2.37 ERA against the Orioles. In 19 career innings against Baltimore, Beckett has struck out 16 and walked just two.

Pitching matchup
BAL: LHP Erik Bedard (10-4, 3.05 ERA)
Bedard is coming off a start in which he allowed more hits than he had in any of his previous six outings, but it certainly wasn't a hitting barrage. The left-hander held the Devil Rays to one run on six hits in six innings.

BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (13-4, 3.27 ERA)
Beckett dropped his last start in a tough-luck performance against the Indians. Despite allowing just four hits and one run over eight innings, the right-hander lost his fourth game of the season.

Player to watch
Wily Mo Pena has hit Bedard well in the times he's faced the left-hander. In eight career at-bats against the Orioles' ace, Pena has five hits and two RBIs.
