Barcs pet calendar sale, autograph signing highlight Orioles homestand

The Orioles will open an eight-game homestand tomorrow when they host the Boston Red Sox at 7:05 p.m. ET. During the homestand, the Orioles will distribute three unique giveaway items, including the Crush Davis and Samson superhero bobblehead, host nearly 1,200 children as part of the OriolesREACH Gameday Experience Program, and debut the 2016-17 Orioles Pet Calendar, presented by Pet+E.R.

On Saturday, August 20, the Orioles eighth annual pet calendar will go on sale with all proceeds benefiting the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), a nonprofit shelter that accepts and cares for all animals in need. The 16-month calendar, sponsored by Pet+E.R. for the second consecutive year, includes photos of Orioles players with their pets and various BARCS animals at locations around Oriole Park. This year's calendar features BRAD BRACH, ZACH BRITTON,DYLAN BUNDY, CHRIS DAVIS, RYAN FLAHERTY, KEVIN GAUSMAN, MYCHAL GIVENS, J.J. HARDY, ADAM JONES,HYUN SOO KIM, MANNY MACHADO, DARREN O'DAY, NOLAN REIMOLD, JOEY RICKARD, CHRIS TILLMAN and MATT WIETERS, as well as manager BUCK SHOWALTER.

Additionally, RYAN FLAHERTY, KEVIN GAUSMAN, J.J. HARDY, HYUN SOO KIM, CHRIS TILLMAN and MATT WIETERS will appear at BARCS (301 Stockholm Street, Baltimore, MD 21230) for an autograph signing from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to Saturday's game (players are subject to change). Fans who purchase a calendar can receive one autograph per person, and fans attending the event may park for free in Lot J (adjacent to BARCS).

The 2017 calendar will be available for $15 at Oriole Park, the Orioles Team Store in the York Galleria in York, Pa., and at orioles.com/petcalendar.

BIRDLAND COMMUNITY HEROES PROGRAM

This season, the Orioles launched the Birdland Community Heroes Program to recognize community heroes who have inspired others through their spirited commitment to extend a hand in charity, service, hope, and harmony. This recognition honors the heroism of members of our extended Orioles community from all walks of life, occupations, and diverse backgrounds living in our region, our country, and abroad, who have distinguished themselves by selflessly working or volunteering in fields that care for, serve, teach, protect, and improve the lives of others, around the corner or around the globe, who are most in need.

The Orioles recognize local Birdland Community Heroes at Oriole Park during every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday home game.

· AUGUST 19 -- MAJBRITT JENSEN, LCSW-C; for her devotion to the University of Maryland Medical Center as a social worker. Jensen continually works with patients in the Bone Marrow Transplant program in the Greenebaum Cancer Center. She initiates and facilitates two support groups and has developed a "Caregiver Contract" for her allogeneic caregivers.

· AUGUST 20 -- LYDIA DIBOS; for her commitment to Catholic Relief Services for 20 years. Dibos serves as the senior advisor for Hispanic Outreach at the headquarters in Baltimore, where she works to engage U.S. Hispanics with Catholic Relief Services.

· AUGUST 21 -- JENNIFER BRAUSE; for her dedication to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS). Brause is the founder of BARCS, the largest open admission animal shelter in Maryland that cares for more than 11,000 cats and dogs, and nearly 1,000 exotic, wildlife, and farm animals each year. Since she founded the organization in 2004, the BARCS team has spayed and neutered more than 40,000 animals and rescued more than 76,000 dogs and cats in Baltimore City.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16

CHRIS DAVIS TO HONOR WINNERS OF CASEY CARES FOUNDATION 5K RUN/WALK

The Orioles will recognize the top male and female runners and the top fundraiser from this year's Casey Cares Foundation 5K Run/Walk during a pregame ceremony before the 7:05 p.m. game on Tuesday, August 16. The Orioles hosted the seventh annual Casey Cares Foundation 5K Run/Walk last Saturday at Oriole Park. Over 1,200 people participated in the event, raising funds for the Casey Cares Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides personalized, uplifting, and ongoing programs with a special touch to critically-ill children and their family members throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This year's Race Ambassador CHRIS DAVIS and his wife, JILL DAVIS, will take part in the pregame ceremony to congratulate the participants for their accomplishments. They will honor SHERRY STICK from Eldersburg, Md., and DAVE BERDAN from Owings Mills, Md., for their first place finishes and LYNDA BUCK for raising more than $3,000 for the Casey Cares Foundation.

BILLY HURLEY TO THROW OUT CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH

U.S. Navy veteran, professional golfer, and recent Quicken Loans National winner BILL HURLEY III, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Tuesday's game. Born and raised in Leesburg, Va., and now a resident of Annapolis, Md., Hurley served in the United States Navy from 2004-09 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy. Hurley won his first PGA Tournament on June 26, at the Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club, in Bethesda, Md. Hurley will be available to media at 6:30 p.m. on the warning track.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 18

ORIOLES DREAM WEEK RING CEREMONY

Each January, the Orioles host fans for a week of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities at Orioles Dream Week, where they have the chance to play at the Orioles' complex in Sarasota, Fla., and receive instruction from former Orioles players. On Thursday, August 18, the members of Rhino's Raiders, the 2016 Orioles Dream Week champions, will be honored in an on-field ceremony before the Orioles game against the Houston Astros. Former Orioles GARY ROENICKE and TOM NIEDENFUER, who coached the championship squad, will present players with their rings. The team compiled the best record in round-robin play among eight teams of men and women. Next year's Orioles Dream Week will take place from January 22-28, in Sarasota. SUPERINTENDENT OF BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO THROW OUT CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH

Prior to Thursday's game, superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools DR. S. DALLAS DANCE will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Dr. Dance is responsible for overseeing the 25th largest school system in the nation with 112,000 students, 173 schools, and more than 21,000 employees. Team BCPS is a Microsoft "Showcase" school system for innovative digital teaching and learning. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA named Dr. Dance one of 10 White House Connected Educator Champions of Change and appointed Dr. Dance to the President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans in 2014.

ORIOLES ALUMNI AUTOGRAPH SERIES

Every Monday and Thursday home game, former Orioles players will sign autographs on Eutaw Street as part of the Orioles Alumni Autograph Series. On August 18, former Orioles KURT BIRKINS, TOM NIEDENFUER and GARY ROENICKE will sign autographs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the autograph location will take place on the Lower Level Concourse near the Fan Assistance Center behind home plate.

ORIOLES AND THE HARTFORD PARTNER TO HOST BASEBALL CLINICS AND PLAYER APPERANCES

The Orioles have partnered with The Hartford to host a combination of on-site and off-site events during the homestand. The Hartford will sponsor two clinics at Oriole Park on August 18, and August 23, where guests will participate in a variety of drills run by Orioles pitchers DYLAN BUNDY and MYCHAL GIVENS, Orioles bullpen coach DOM CHITI, Orioles coach EINAR DÍAZ, and former Orioles pitcher ROSS GRIMSLEY. Additionally, The Hartford will host three Surprise Agency Visits on August 17, August 19, and August 22, at local insurance agencies, with a guest appearance by Orioles pitcher BRAD BRACH and former Orioles pitcher DAVE JOHNSON. These events are not open to the public. The Hartford helps individuals with insurance and income protection for their homes, cars, businesses, income, and employees. For more than 200 years, The Hartford has helped customers prepare for life's challenges, protect what they value most, and prevail when the unexpected strikes. 

FRIDAY, AUGUST 19

ORIOLES AND ORIOLES REACH TO HOST FUNDRAISING EVENT TO BENEFIT SHANNON'S FUND

The Orioles and OriolesREACH will host a private fundraising event for Shannon's Fund on Friday, August 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Oriole Park prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against the Houston Astros. The private event includes a pregame barbeque, an opportunity to watch batting practice from the center field Roof Deck, a visit from an Orioles player, photos with the Oriole Bird, an Orioles gift, two complementary drink tickets, as well as fireworks following the conclusion of the game. Additionally, a silent auction for Orioles memorabilia will take place near Gate E to benefit Shannon's Fund. Fans attending that evening's game will be able to bid on memorabilia using the MLB.com Ballpark app from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The MLB.com Ballpark app is available in the Apple App Store, Google Play, or orioles.com/ballparkapp.

An endowment at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Shannon's Fund was established by the Orioles and OriolesREACH in 2008 to provide financial support to hospital patients and their families to assist with many expenses associated with the treatment process. The endowment was created in memory of SHANNON OBAKER, the club's former Director of Community Outreach, who bravely fought cancer for a year before she passed away in 2007 at the age of 29.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 20

CRUSH DAVIS AND SAMSON BOBBLEHEAD GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, August 20, when the Orioles host the Astros at 7:05 p.m., the first 25,000 fans ages 15 and over will receive a Crush Davis and Samson Bobblehead. The bobblehead features superhero Crush Davis with his English Bulldog sidekick Samson, whose head also bobbles. Crush Davis is based on the alter ego of Orioles first baseman CHRIS DAVIS, originally revealed in the 2014 Crush Davis action figure. For the past three seasons, Samson has been featured in the Orioles Pet Calendar benefiting Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).

ORIOLES PARTNER WITH CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES TO HOST THE "10,000 MEAL CHALLENGE" MEAL PACKAGING EVENT

The Orioles and Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Helping Hands, a volunteer meal-packaging program, have partnered to host the 10,000 Meal Challenge - a fundraising effort aimed at sending 10,000 meals to the women and children of Burkina Faso, West Africa. The Orioles and CRS Helping Hands will host the meal-packaging event at Oriole Park on Saturday from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Fundraising teams that raised more than $500 for the challenge have been invited to attend the meal packing event along with Orioles Hall of Famer MIKE BORDICK, MASN broadcaster JIM HUNTER, and the Oriole Bird. This event has reached capacity for participating teams. 

Through the 10,000 Meal Challenge fundraising program, for every 50 cents raised, CRS Helping Hands can provide one meal to our under-fed global neighbors and fund projects that help families support themselves. The Orioles are committed to fighting hunger locally, nationally, and internationally on a year-round basis. Each year, the Orioles host the annual OriolesREACH Food & Funds Drive at Oriole Park in addition to hosting food collections in their southern home of Sarasota, Fla. By partnering with the Catholic Relief Services Helping Hands, the Orioles hope to provide hunger-relief and bring awareness to the issue of hunger on an international level.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 21

PET+ER PREGAME CHECK PRESENTATION TO BARCS

Prior to the 1:35 p.m. game against the Astros on Sunday, August 21, DR. TANYA TAG, Medical Director of Pet+E.R., will present a check for $8,000 to BARCS Executive Director JENNIFER BRAUSE to support BARCS and their ongoing work to help homeless and abused animals in Baltimore. The Orioles and Pet+E.R. have helped to raise more than $61,000 through Orioles pet calendar sales of the 2015-16 edition. The largest companion animal shelter in Maryland, BARCS takes in more than 11,000 dogs and cats and 1,000 wildlife and other small mammals annually. On any given day, BARCS cares for 110 dogs and 110 cats in the shelter, and more than 800 animals in foster care.

Additionally, BARCS will be at the OriolesREACH Community Booth by Gate D to collect donated pet items for their shelter from the time gates open at 11:30 a.m. until the seventh inning. These items can include towels, sheets, unopened pet food (dry and canned), stainless steel no-flip bowls (all sizes), puppy replacement milk and nursing bottles, British slip leads, toys that are durable and washable (no stuffed animals), treats, fleece cat beds, cat treats, cardboard box lids to use as "throw away" litter pans, paper towels (regular and industrial), dish detergent, pill pockets to medicate animals, lint rollers, baby wipes (unscented), and scrubber pads (not stainless steel).

#BIRDLANDPOWERCO OMOJI T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY

All fans in attendance at Sunday's game will receive a #BirdlandPowerCo Omoji T-Shirt giveaway. The t-shirt features the Orioles Omojis of the top six home run hitters on the roster: MARK TRUMBO, CHRIS DAVIS, MANNY MACHADO, ADAM JONES, JONATHAN SCHOOP and PEDRO ÁLVAREZ, who have a combined 143 home runs this season. The Orioles currently lead the majors with 176 home runs.

ORIOLES MILITARY APPRECIATION PROGRAM

As part of the Orioles Military Appreciation Program presented by GEICO, the Orioles and OriolesREACH donate a catered private suite at each Sunday home game at Oriole Park to servicemen and women. On Sunday, military members from Mission Continues will enjoy the game against the Houston Astros from a catered suite, have a meet-and-greet with CHRIS DAVIS and CHRIS TILLMAN, and receive a player t-shirt. The Mission Continues empowers veterans who are adjusting to life at home to find purpose through community impact. They deploy veterans on new missions in their communities, so that their actions will inspire future generations to serve.

KIDS RUN THE BASES

As is the case for every Sunday home game this season, all fans 14 and under will be able to participate in a postgame Kids Run the Bases, weather permitting, following the game on Sunday, August 21.

ORIOLES WICKER WEAVE BALLCAP GIVEAWAY

On Monday, August 22, the first 20,000 fans 15 and over will receive an Orioles Wicker Weave Ballcap, at the 7:05 p.m. game against the Nationals.

ORIOLES ALUMNI AUTOGRAPH SERIES

Former Orioles BRIAN BASS, TIPPY MARTINEZ and GARRETT STEPHENSON will sign autographs on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Eutaw Street as part of the Orioles Alumni Autograph Series. In case of inclement weather, location will be on the lower concourse near home plate fan assistance.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 24

ORIOLES PLAYERS AND COACHES VISIT USO AT NSA BETHESDA, HOME OF WALTER REED NATIONAL MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER

On Wednesday, August 24, in partnership with the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore, Orioles players and coaches will visit the USO Warrior Family Center at Naval Support Activity Bethesda, home of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. During their visit, the Orioles will sign autographs and take photos with active duty military members, wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families. Players and coaches will also participate in outdoor recreational activities during a barbeque lunch hosted by the Orioles. This event is closed to the media and the public.

POSITIVE COACHING ALLIANCE WORKSHOP FOR RBI COACHES

All Baltimore Orioles RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) coaches will participate in a coaching workshop provided by Positive Coaching Alliance on Thursday, August 25, at Oriole Park. This workshop will cover how coaches can model and teach their players to honor the game, pursue mastery of baseball, and more.
