Loewen, O's look to close out Red Sox

Loewen, O's look to close out Red Sox

Somewhere along the line, a great homestand turned into a forgettable group of games. Baltimore started a seven-game billing at Camden Yards with three straight wins, but three straight losses have followed. Still, the Orioles can salvage the week's worth of games with a win in Thursday's series finale against the Red Sox.

Adam Loewen will get the ball Thursday, and he'll be matched against Boston's Josh Beckett. Loewen has only left one game with his team trailing this season, but his command and control have wavered at times. Beckett, on the other hand, is having the kind of year many expected from him last year, his first in the American League.

Baltimore has lost this series in four of the last five seasons and owns a 36-58 record against Boston since the dawn of the 2002 season. Last year was especially brutal, as the Red Sox beat the Orioles 15 times in 18 games. The O's are just 20-49 against Boston at Camden Yards since the beginning of the 1999 campaign.

Pitching matchup
BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (4-0, 2.55)
Beckett has gotten great run support and has won all four of his starts this season.

BAL: LHP Adam Loewen (2-0, 3.72)
Loewen walked a career-high seven batters in his last start and leads the league in free passes (19).

Player to watch
Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada homered Wednesday night and is riding a 10-game hitting streak.
