"State of the Orioles" event to highlight upcoming Orioles homestand

The Orioles will open a six-game homestand tomorrow when they host the Cleveland Indians at 7:05 p.m. ET. During the homestand, the Orioles will distribute three unique giveaway items, including the Orioles 1966 Jim Palmer replica jersey, host nearly 1,000 children as part of the OriolesREACH Gameday Experience Program, and expect to host several thousand Orioles Season Plan Members for the annual "State of the Orioles" event and autograph signing.

The "State of the Orioles" event, which is open only to Orioles Season Plan Members, will take place prior to the game against the Indians on Saturday, July 23. Gates A and H will open to all Full Season and 29-Game Plan Holders at 3:00 p.m. for an autograph session with Orioles players. Twelve stations will be set up around the ballpark, with multiple players per station. The players will sign autographs and greet fans from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gates A and H will open to all Season Plan Members at 4:15 p.m. for a question-and-answer session at 4:30 p.m., featuring Orioles Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations DAN DUQUETTE and Manager BUCK SHOWALTER, emceed by MASN broadcaster JIM HUNTER.

The Orioles will once again offer a "Value Menu" for Season Plan Members at the concession stands located in the lower concourse behind home plate with discounts on food and beverage items until 5:00 p.m.

BIRDLAND COMMUNITY HEROES PROGRAM
This season, the Orioles launched the Birdland Community Heroes Program to recognize community heroes who have inspired others through their spirited commitment to extend a hand in charity, service, hope, and harmony. This recognition honors the heroism of members of our extended Orioles community from all walks of life, occupations, and diverse backgrounds living in our region, our country, and abroad, who have distinguished themselves by selflessly working or volunteering in fields that care for, serve, teach, protect, and improve the lives of others, around the corner or around the globe, who are most in need.

The Orioles recognize local Birdland Community Heroes at Oriole Park during every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday home game.

  • JULY 22 - PAMELA JOHNSON; for her dedication to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore, where she serves as Area Director. She provides leadership for the Webster Kendrick Club, Towanda Club, and is the Community School Coordinator for Callaway Elementary School. She has been with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore since 2009, and she was actively involved in the planning process for the establishment of the new computer lab and Teen Center at Callaway Elementary, as well as the Webster Kendrick Club, which was donated by the Orioles Charitable Foundation and center fielder ADAM JONES
  • JULY 23 - THOMAS J. MOONEY, IV; for his commitment to the Orokawa Y in Towson and the Y in Central Maryland's Northern Baltimore County Community Leadership Board. Mooney spends nearly 200-300 hours each year volunteering on behalf of the Y in Central Maryland.
  • JULY 24 - DR. LORI EDWARDS; for her devotion to the public health community in Baltimore City. She serves as President of the Board for the Julie Community Center, which is a nonprofit organization located in Fells Point that is dedicated to improving educational access and opportunity in the city. Edwards, who was previously with the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, also helped set up health education programs in Libya following the civil war there. She recently founded a nursing group in hopes of providing medical access for the most disadvantaged residents in our community.

FRIDAY, JULY 22 

JIM PALMER BOOK SIGNING AT ORIOLES TEAM STORE
The Orioles will host a book signing featuring Baseball Hall of Famer and Orioles Legend JIM PALMER on Friday, July 22. Palmer will sign copies of his new book, "Nine Innings to Success," from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Majestic Orioles Team Store at Oriole Park. Fans can purchase the book at the signing for $27.

ORIOLES FLOPPY HAT NIGHT PRESENTED BY MILLER LITE
A Birdland tradition will continue on Friday, July 22, when the first 20,000 fans 21 years or older receive an Orioles Floppy Hat presented by Miller Lite prior to the 7:05 p.m. against the Indians. The orange floppy hat features multiple cartoon Oriole Bird logos and "O's" logos in the design.

JENAE CHERRY TO PERFORM AT ORIOLE PARK
On Friday, July 22, country singer JENAE CHERRY, wife of Orioles pitcher BRAD BRACH, will perform a pregame concert and "The Star-Spangled Banner" prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against the Indians. In 2011, she formed the Jenae Cherry Band and quickly became a country music staple in Nashville, Tenn. Her new EP, "Spinning," was released in late April and includes four original songs. The couple was married in 2013. 

STUDENT NIGHT
Every Friday, students of any age with a valid school I.D. can purchase Left Field Upper Reserve seats for just $7 at the Oriole Park Box Office. Tickets are subject to availability.

BALTIMORE ORIOLES RBI TEAMS TO COMPETE IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
The 18
th season of the Baltimore Orioles RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) League will come to a conclusion on Sunday, July 24, as the Orioles RBI junior baseball, senior baseball, and softball teams play in the Mid-Atlantic RBI Regional Tournament held in Prince George's County, Md., from Friday, July 22, to Sunday, July 24. More than 550 children participated in the Orioles RBI program this season that spanned from the beginning of June to the end of July. Each player in the Orioles RBI program was given the opportunity to try out for the regional team in early July, which was evaluated and chosen by the Orioles RBI coaches. The Orioles RBI teams that will be represented in the tournament include: Bear Creek Green, Bear Creek Blue, Hamilton Hammers, James Mosher Mustangs, Northwood Cubs, Baltimore Barracudas, Woodlawn Firebirds, Baltimore Blue Crabs, Gardenville Grays, Stembridge Hitmen, Liberty Road Redwings, Gray Charles, Gardenville Lady Grays, PASS Roses, Edreco Eagles, and Maryland Lady Rattlers. 

The Orioles cover all expenses for the Orioles RBI Regional teams for each division (junior, senior, and softball) in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. Each athlete will travel like a professional player, traveling on the same buses used by the Orioles, and staying overnight in a hotel.

SATURDAY, JULY 23

ORIOLES BATTING PRACTICE CAP GIVEAWAY PRESENTED BY PNC BANK
On Saturday, July 22, the first 20,000 fans 15 and over will receive an Orioles batting practice cap, presented by PNC Bank, prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against the Indians. The cap is a replica of the new black panel and brim batting practice cap featuring the cartoon Oriole Bird logo.

SUNDAY, JULY 24

ORIOLES 1966 JIM PALMER REPLICA JERSEY PRESENTED BY UMBC 50th ANNIVERSARY
As part of the ongoing celebration of the 50
th Anniversary of the Orioles' 1966 World Series victory, the first 20,000 fans 15 and over will receive an Orioles 1966 Jim Palmer replica jersey, presented by UMBC 50th Anniversary, prior to the 1:35 p.m. game against the Indians on Sunday, July 24. 

KIDS RUN THE BASES
As is the case for every Sunday home game this season, all fans 14 and under will be able to participate in a postgame Kids Run the Bases, weather permitting, following the game on Sunday, July 24.

ORIOLES MILITARY APPRECIATION PROGRAM
As part of the Orioles Military Appreciation Program presented by GEICO, the Orioles and OriolesREACH donate a catered private suite at each Sunday home game at Oriole Park to servicemen and women. On Sunday, July 24, military members from USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore will enjoy the game against the Cleveland Indians at 1:35 p.m. from a catered suite, have a meet-and-greet with BRAD BRACH and J.J. HARDY, and receive a player t-shirt. USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore is the largest chapter chartered by the USO, with ten locations and a "deployable" Mobile USO. USO-Metro is a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of local corporations and individuals.

MONDAY, JULY 25

RYAN FLAHERTY TO APPEAR AT THE T-MOBILE STORE IN GLEN BURNIE
On Monday, July 25, Orioles infielder RYAN FLAHERTY will make an appearance at the T-Mobile store (6711 Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie, MD 21061) from noon to 1:00 p.m. Flaherty will sign autographs and greet fans. The event is free of charge and open to the public.  

BALTIMORE ORIOLES RBI DIVISION CHAMPIONS RECOGNITION
Prior to the game against the Rockies on Monday, July 25, the Orioles will recognize the division champions of the Baltimore Orioles RBI League in a special pregame ceremony. After a two month-long season with 34 different teams and more than 550 players, four teams won their respective championships: TBD (13 & under baseball), Bear Creek Green (15 & under baseball), Liberty Road Redwings (18 & under baseball), and Gray Charles (19 & under softball). The Orioles have also donated more than 800 tickets to each Baltimore Orioles RBI team to attend that night's game.

TUESDAY, JULY 26

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES "TRADING PLACES" PROMOTION
On Tuesday, July 26, Orioles pitcher KEVIN GAUSMAN and outfielder JOEY RICKARD will participate in the Southwest Airlines "Trading Places" promotion at BWI Airport. The players will participate in a variety of jobs performed by Southwest Airlines employees including boarding passengers for a departing flight, supporting the arrival of Southwest Airlines aircraft, and more. MYCHAL GIVENS TO APPEAR AT ORIOLES TEAM STORE IN YORK
On Tuesday, July 26, Orioles pitcher MYCHAL GIVENS will make an appearance at the Orioles Team Store in the York Galleria (2899 Whiteford Rd, York, PA 17402) from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Givens will sign autographs and greet fans. The event is free of charge and open to the public. 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27

ADAM JONES TO RECEIVE THE HEART AND HUSTLE AWARD
On Wednesday, July 27, Orioles center fielder ADAM JONES will be presented with the Orioles' 2016 Heart and Hustle Award by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) prior to the 7:05 p.m. game against the Colorado Rockies. This esteemed award is voted on by Alumni players and honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game. Jones previously won the award in the 2012, 2014, and 2015.

AMERICAN FLAG FOUNDATION ESSAY CONTEST WINNERS RECOGNITION
Before the Orioles take on the Rockies on Wednesday, July 27, the team will host student winners of the 2016 Philip F. Haxel, Sr. Elementary School Baton of Patriotism Essay Contest for a pregame ceremony. The contest was founded by the American Flag Foundation, the organization that brings the Living American Flag at Fort McHenry and the Traveling Living American Flag to Maryland schools. PHILIP F. HAXEL, JR., son of the humanitarian for whom the contest is named, will recognize the winners.
