ORIOLES 8, NATIONALS 4 at Camden Yards Saturday, April 1Nationals at the plate: Washington put a runner in scoring position in each of the first three innings, but it didn't score until Daryle Ward hit a solo homer in the fourth inning. Jose Vidro hit a two-run double down the left-field line to pull the Nationals into a 3-3 tie. Washington had at least two baserunners in three of the first four innings.
Orioles at the plate: Miguel Tejada had gone all of Spring Training without a home run, but he changed that with a two-run blast in the first inning. Later on, Tejada drilled a run-scoring single. Luis Matos delivered a tie-breaking double in the sixth inning, and the O's scored four times after that. Nick Markakis doubled and legged out two infield singles.
Nationals on the mound: Pedro Astacio worked two innings and left with a two-run deficit. The right-hander gave up a hit and a homer in the first inning, then a double and a warning-track out in the second. Astacio left the game with right forearm tightness and will need an MRI exam. Mike Stanton pitched one inning, allowing two hits and one run.
Orioles on the mound: Daniel Cabrera had another erratic outing. The right-hander pitched three scoreless innings before getting tagged for three runs in the fourth. Cabrera struck out three batters in the first inning and eight total, but he also walked four batters and gave up five hits. Bruce Chen pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three batters.
Spring Training records: Nationals 9-23-1; Orioles 13-17.
Up next: The Orioles have a workout day Sunday at 3:05 p.m. ET and will begin the regular season on Monday against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Rodrigo Lopez and Tampa Bay's Scott Kazmir will start that game.
The Nationals leave for New York after Saturday's game and will open up against the Mets on Monday at 1:10 p.m. ET. Veterans Livan Hernandez and Tom Glavine will face off at Shea Stadium.
