Marlins at the plate: Reggie Abercrombie's infield single with the bases loaded in the fourth inning produced an unearned run. Jason Wood's RBI double in the fifth inning made it 5-2. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for Florida.

Orioles at the plate: Brian Roberts doubled on the first pitch of the game, and he scored to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Jeff Conine's two-out double. The lead grew to 5-0 with a four-run third inning. Kevin Millar delivered a three-run homer, and Melvin Mora had an RBI double.

Marlins on the mound: In five innings, Sergio Mitre allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. The No. 2 starter, Mitre logged 76 pitches. Reliever Todd Wellemeyer made his debut after being acquired Tuesday from the Cubs, tossing a scoreless sixth inning, in which he walked one.

Orioles on the mound: Erik Bedard was effective in four innings, giving up one unearned run on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Slotted to pitch the second game of the season, Bedard threw 70 pitches.

Grapefruit League records: Orioles 11-17; Marlins 19-7-3.

Up next: The Orioles travel to RFK Stadium in Washington on Friday to take on the Nationals at 7:05 p.m. ET. Kris Benson gets the start for Baltimore, while Washington will go with John Patterson.

The Marlins head to Texas on Friday, and they will take on the Rangers at 8:05 p.m. ET. The pitching matchup features Brian Moehler and Kameron Loe.
