Sosa ties Robinson for fifth on HR list

BALTIMORE -- Sammy Sosa tied former Oriole Frank Robinson for fifth on the all-time home run list with career homer No. 586 in the sixth inning Tuesday night.

With nobody out and Rafael Palmeiro on first base, Sosa launched a Kenny Rogers pitch 405 feet, into the Orioles' bullpen in left-center field.

The homer was Sosa's 12th of the season and his third in the past eight games.

Sosa passed Mark McGwire on July 18 to move into sixth place on the all-time list.

The 36-year-old slugger is 74 homers shy of Willie Mays, who is fourth all-time with 660 home runs.
